Somethin' for the boys!!!

Yet another of No1 son's friends had a birthday last week and this is the card that I made for him. I have a couple of standards for male & female friends so that I can reel them off PDQ!!! This card was made, primarily, with downloadables from Madaboutcards. I printed off a booze inspired backing paper, and some party images onto photopaper. I covered the front of the card with the paper which was matted onto blue & red paper. The images were matted in the same way. I arranged them on the front of the card with the bottle & tankard adhered flat & the party people adhered with foam pads. I cut an image to fit the top of a bottle cap ( from Wilkinson's Home Brew Dept!) and adhered that with a thick foam pad. I cut out the ''CHEERS ANDY!'' from red card and raised the letters with foam pads. I decorated the inside of the card too. I added a little glitz to the letters with Jo Sonja's Opal Dust, a FAB glitter glue that has tiny glitter discs in it! Click on the picture to see it in more detail.

The Bride & Groom

Sorry folks if you're getting bored with this style of card, but it's just such an easy layout to use and as you can see very versatile. This time I made a wedding card. I used papers from a CD that came free with Papercraft Essentials. The card was covered with a lovely pink rose patterned paper with a piece of polka paper as accent. The large pink panel has lovely sentiments on it. I added some sheer white ribbon, a layered flower and some silver entwined hearts. Three flower shaped pearl buttons were adhered above the pink panel. I cut all the sentiments from silver paper and adhered them flat. I border punched a strip of the script paper to decorate the inside of the card.

30th Anniversary

Here's another card made with the layout I used in previous posts, this time for a 30th Anniversary card. I used paper from My Mind's Eye Magnolia Collection. I used a lovely blue & chocolate combo for this one with chocolate accents. I used glitter paper for the numerals and cut the sentiment from brown cardstock and glittered it after it was adhered to the card front.

T 4 2 - Something different!

I don't normally make shaped cards, but this little teapot was TOO CUTE to ignore!
I cut it from white card then covered the front with polka dot embossed paper then trimmed away the excess. I drew around the teapot onto this rose paper and cut out a teapot body. Using the same method I cut out a separate lid and little knob for the top. I adhered the pieces into place & then ran around the edges with a dressmaker's wheel. I cut out a tag, along with the sentiment from the same rose patterned paper. I cut the pink shadow on the letters by hand. I decorated the tag with a couple of paper roses and tied it to the 'lid' with some pink voile ribbon. I trimmed the tag with a bow. The tag swings freely. I added the sentiment 'fancy a cuppa?' to the inside.

With Love ,Nana

Here's another card made with A Child's Year. I used My Mind's Eye paper again and the same layout as the previous couple of cards. I cut out the cute little girl and wheelbarrow and then added her with foam pads to the pink panel, overlapping the green satin ribbon. I added some pearls to the ribbon & above the pink panel. I cut 'Nana' from aqua glitter card and raised the letters with foam pads. The 'with love' is adhered flat. I decorated the inside with more patterned paper & 'happy birthday'.

A Nana's heart.....

Creative Cardmaking (Issue 6) has some really fab papers, A4 size , matt finish and nice & thick, and I used them for this card. I used the same layout and mathod of construction as yesterday's card but added a HUGE heart over the ribbon. I cut it from patchwork paper which enforces the sentiment, and also cut the word 'patchwork' for the inside of the card from the same paper. I added a layered flower to the heart, and cut ' A Nana's' from pink card. I passed 'Nana's' through a Xyron X and then glittered each letter. I glittered the 'A' with Cosmic Shimmer glitter glue as I wanted it to be a slightly different shade. The sentiment was raised on foam pads & the inside sentiment was adhered flat. In keeping with the heart theme, I cut a strip of patchwork paper and edged it with a Martha Stewart border punch.

Happy Birthday,Menai

I made this card for the eldest daughter of some very good friends of ours (you'll remember another card I made for her when she qualified as a doctor last month) as it's her birthday on Sunday. I found this layout whilst blog hopping on Carla Peicheff's blog (Moralia's weblog) and I love it! I used My Mind's Eye paper (again!), covering the front of the card with a vine patterned paper, overlaying it with another narrower strip with a punched edge. Over this I adhered a rectangular panel with faux stitching drawn onto it. Satin ribbon was wrapped around the panel and a bow & layered flower added. The whole panel was adhered to the front of the card with foam tape. I cut out the sentiment in black paper and the name in aqua glitter card. The name was raised with foam pads. 3 pearls on the ribbon and 3 more above the pink panel finish the card.

Sisters....

Remember I said that A Child's Year wasn't only for kiddies cards? Well here's the proof! I've got loads more ideas for this cart..all it takes is a sentiment, which was what inspired this card. Isn't the sentiment lovely? I thought that the two little girlies could be sisters.. couldn't they?! Anyway, that's what I made them! I cut out the girlies from black card and applied them to a scalloped frame which was shadowed in blue. I covered the front of the card in 2 designs of paper with a punched border beneath the paler panel. I added a strip of ribbon to the pink portion and a bow to the frame along with some layered flowers. I cut the 'Sisters' part of the sentiment from pink card with a blue shadow and the 'by chance' from black paper. The inside sentiment was made in the same way. I added some Cosmic Shimmer glitter to the frame and 'Sisters'

Only YOU

Here is another card along the same lines as yesterday's. This time I used the 'You' sentiment and papers from My Mind's Eye Bloom & Grow collection. I covered the front of the card with stripy green paper over which I put another panel covered with strips of 3 different papers. A mint green velvet ribbon and bow were tied around this panel & a layered flower added. I cut a white panel and matted & layered it onto green card. I cut out the sentiment from orange leaf print paper & black paper for 'only'. These were adhered flat to the white panel which in turn was adhered to the front of the card with foam tape. I cut out a '4' and 'me' and adhered these inside the card.

Time.....

This card is made using a layout I found whilst browsing in Blogland. I used 2 different papers from the My Mind's Eye Magnolia stack. I cut a template for the wavy front, transferred it to cardstock and then covered each section with a different paper and added ribbon to the bottom portion. These sections were adhered to the front of the card with foam tape. I cut out the 'Time' icon from plain paper and adhered it to a matted square which was then adhered to the wavy portions. 'It's' was cut from black paper and adhered to the side of 'Time' and a layered flower added above it. Three blue pearls, and a sentiment complete the card.

Fab new cart!!!!

I had another post planned for today, but the postman put paid to that this morning! He delivered 2 NEW CARTS all the way from the USA! I ordered them yonks ago and they posted them on the 11th and they arrived today! What a service!!! The carts are A Childs Year & Ashlyn's Alphabet ( I think only the first one is available here as yet) A Child's Year has TONS of beautiful vintage-style silhouettes of kiddies doing what kiddies do best! There is no layering with this one so you just have to go with the silhouette theme, but there are so many to choose from that you'll never be stuck for ideas. I chose a little high-chair image for these 1st birthday cards. I cut them from pink & blue glitter card (you don't HAVE to use black) and chose papers & cardstock to match. The images were put inside a scalloped oval frame over a panel of patterned paper edged with a Martha Stewart punch. I added a ribbon bow & cluster of roses then glittered around the frame. The inside was decorated with an oval with a number 1 cut into it and 'today!' cut from cardstock. If you get this cart you won't regret it - it's not just for kiddies cards there -are images suitable for a wide range of cards on there too!

Phoebe

No 1 son is going to yet ANOTHER 18th birthday party today and this is the card that I made for him to take along. It's a bit of an unusual colour I suppose for a birthday card, but the image is eating a rather large box of choccies so .... Hello! Terry's Chocolate Orange!! I used 2 papers from the My Mind's Eye Magnolia 12x12 stack covering the front of the card with a brushed orange paper and a strip of orange flowered paper across the middle which I adhered onto a strip of brown card edged with a Martha Stewart punch. I didn't have any large brown flowers so I cut out a large brown dotty daisy from paper and added an orange bloom topped with a brown satin ribbon bow and fabric brad. I cut the name from polka dot paper and card and adhered it below the flowered strip with foam pads. The image was adhered to card to give it more substance and then cut out. She was adhered to the front of the card with foam pads. 3 blingy flowers (originally diamante but coloured brown with peel off pens) complete the card.

Happy bird-day to you!

Here's another card with the same fold as yesterday's and that hilarious birdy paper. I added a paper frill again to the front fold then covered the front with eau-de-nil spotty paper. The back of the card was covered with birdy paper. I cut out a mount and rounded the top 2 corners and edged the bottom with a border punch. A strip of birdy paper and smaller strip of aqua dotty paper was adhered to the bottom of the mount. I added a polka dot ribbon bow, a layered flower and 3 candy dots to finish. A second mount was cut and adhered to the birdy paper exactly behind the front mount. A sentiment-'to you!' was cut and adhered to the second mount.

Hello!

Here's another card with the same fold as yesterday's card. I used My Mind's Eye paper again, this time in russet & sage, and added a punched frill to the folded edge. I cut a mount for the sentiment from white card and sage coloured paper. I stacked them after covering the bottom part of the top mount with scraps of the paper and adding a russet polka dot ribbon and bow. I layered up flower and adhered it to the top left of the mount. The sentiment was cut from the same russet polka dot paper as the front flap of the card. I added another white mount on the inside back of the card exactly behind the one on the front.

Lovebird Anniversary

It's my sister and brother-in-law's wedding anniversary tomorrow and this is the card that I made for them. I folded the front of a card back on itself and covered it with this lovely paper from My Mind's Eye called Bloom & Grow. Contrast paper was adhered to the back of the card. I cut out the love birds & heart from pink mirri card and a shadow from white card. The birds were accented with my dressmaker's wheel then adhered to the shadow with foam pads. I added some green dotty paper behind the heart and raised the heart with foam pads. A voile ribbon bow and cream paper rose were added. A couple of pearls were used as eyes on the birds. Happy Anniversary was cut along with a shadow and raised on foam pads below the birds, along with pearl accents in the top right hand corner.

U r so tweet!

Don't you just love this birdy paper?! I think it's hilarious!!! It's by Three Bugs In a Rug and it's double sided. I cut a panel of white textured card and mounted it onto dusky pink card. I added a panel of dotty paper with a punched edge & ribbon trim to the bottom of the card, then adhered a piece of birdy paper to white card, cut it out and rounded one corner. This was wrapped with a piece of red spotty ribbon, emebellished with a layered flower then adhered to the card front with foam tape. I cut out a speech bubble added the sentiment 'so tweet' - U r was created with Making Memories Heidi rub-ons. I placed the speech bubble so that it looks as though the little birdy is talking!!! No-Silver Anniversary

I think that sometimes we get into a rut when it comes to making cards for specific occasions and feel that we MUST use gold or silver or pink or blue for the cards to celebrate those occassions. Sometimes it's good to come out of your comfort zone and try something different. Who says that silver wedding anniverary cards MUST have silver on them? I chose to use these lovely Papermania papers for this card for No1 son's friends parents (got that?!!) I matted a piece of very pale pink patterned paper onto moss green card. I added two contrast panels, one adhered flat and the other raised. Before adding the second panel I adhered a piece of moss green ribbon across the card and added a bow and layered flower. I cut out '25' in patterned paper and then hand cut a shadow (there isn't a shadow function on the Lyrical Letters cart). I added a fancy scroll corner, a gold (yes, gold!) and pearl heart button (shank removed) to the top of the green panel and then finished off with pearls & Cosmic Shimmer glitter. I used rub-ons (Making Memories Heidi font) for the recipients names. The completed panel was adhered to the front of the card on foam tape.

It's my birthday on Sunday, and my sister Valerie's on Monday (how's that for timing?!) and this is the card that I made for her. I used a larger image from the Dovecraft pack, and mounted it onto a panel made from free paper from Papercraft Inspirations. I mounted the polka dot panel onto white cardstock and then again onto blue. I added a white scalloped edged strip with ribbon and flower trim. The image was adhered over this panel with foam pads. I cut out 'Valerie' from yellow paper and card and stuck them together. They were then adhered with foam pads. Happy Birthday is computer generated onto Safmat. A card for Kat!

Here is (yet) another doiley card, this time for a schoolmate of my No2 son. I used those lovely image papers again from Dovecraft. I cut out the shopper gal and stuck her onto a piece of white card then cut around her leaving a border. The card was cut at 6 1/4", and the inside front covered in lilac card & trimmed by hand. I cut a circle to fit the front of the card and covered it with 2 designs of paper, then added ribbon and a layered flower. I cut a pink shadow and adhered the patterned circle to it with foam pads. A scalloped oval with white oval and lilac shadow was used as a mount for the shopper gal, again adhered with foam pads. 'KAT' was cut from purple glitter paper and white card, stuck together and then raised on foam pads. 3 purple gems were added to the space beneath the flower. I cut a circle of card slightly smaller than the front of the card and covered it with two different papers, scalloping the edge of the bottom portion with a Fiskars punch. I threaded voile ribbon through the holes and added a bow with a layered flower. I blinged it up with some gems and glitter and added the name using glittered card stock. Champagne Celebration!

This card was for a commission, and the brief was Champagne and NO pink! I decided to use this fab champers bottle tri-fold card which fits the bill I think! I cut the card out at 6 1/4" to fit a C5 envelope. Although it looks green the bottle is actually the same colour as the letters & numbers! It's cobalt blue mirri card and I love it! I traced around the bottle onto the blue mirri and cut it out & adhered it to the bottle on the card. I cut out the trimmings in silver mirri. I added '1959' to the bottle label and a layered flower and ribbon trim. 'JO' & '50' are cut from blue glitter card and adhered with foam pads. The happy birthday is cut from blue mirri and adhered flat. I added a personal insert to finish. I am assured that the customer was thrilled with it!

Enjoy Life!

I bought this lovely paper from The Paper Mill. It's sort of pearlescent in a lovely turquoise with white print, and I wanted a real contrast so I decided to use brown, and I think the combo is luscious! I cut a piece of paper to fit the front, shaped it into a curve, adhered it to a piece of marble paper, then matted it onto chocolate brown cardstock. The panel was then adhered to the front of the card with foam tape. I added a brown satin ribbon band with layered flower (this one has a lovely velvet texture) with a Laura Ashley fabric brad in the centre. I cut out the 'Enjoy' icon, passed it through the Xyron then dumped brown glitter over it. I added rub-on letters to spell 'life!' and some bling to finish
