Dad's cheery card

My dearDad has been admitted to hospital with just about the most serious lung condition that you can get. He is being very stoic- he has a drain in his chest which is draining litres of fluid per day but that is diminishing now & we hope that he will be home soon and preparing for chemo. He is trying to be as cheerful as is possible so I decided to make him a card that was cheery in itself. I used this paper from the DCWV Glitter stack and added a suitable sentiment. I decorated the card inside - it says 'our thoughts are with you'- and added some Candy Dots to the outside (the 3 green brad-like thingies). Very simple but cheerful don't you think? As the card says Hang in there Dad, we're with you all the way!

New Shoes!!!

It's our niece Anita's birthday tomorrow. She lives in Sydney and she has more shoes than Imelda Marcos, I swear! I decided to use this fab cut for her card and this quote that I have seen on sooooo many cards. I cut the show 3 times in silver,black dotty & white dotty paper. I then pieced the shoe together. I added a flower with flower gem centre. I cut a decorative plaque and hand cut the shadow for it. I cut the quote using different colours of c/s for the last word. I added a large layered flower & some gems and decorated the inside. The shoe is raised on foam pads, the backing paper is by Clare Curd for Papermania from The Range

Birthday Wishes

I do a lot of blog hopping in the hope of finding a 'sketch' or layout for a card, and I was not disappointed. I found this one at SplitCoast Stampers. It should have 4 paper panels on the front but I only used 2. I embellished the white panel with a huge layered flower and added a swirl (you can just about see it!) on the ribbon with papermania gems adhered with tiny dabs of silicone glue. I also added gems to the ribbon across the top of the card. I decorated the inside too (I'm really 'into' that at the moment!) I added glittered sentiments. The front sentiment was layered onto a yellow hand cut shadow as some of the new cartridges don't allow machine cut shadows on some cuts-the shadow function usually does something else!

Always on my mind....

You can combine sentiments from different carts to get the effect that you want, and this card is an example of that. I borrowed the layout from another blog and added to it. I used DCWV Spring Glitter paper. I cut a piece for the left hand front and passed it through a Fiskars border punch. I added ribbon, a bow and a hat-pin. I cut out a nested shape to hold the sentiment and embellished it with layered flowers, and floral bead clusters. I then decorated the inside of the card with a punched border & 24/7 sentiment.

Thank You Quartet

Happy Weekend everyone!

My hubby asked me for some Thank You cards on Thursday,but I didn't have any already made,so I threw these together in super quick time. I like to keep Thank You cards as simple as possible and you can't get much simpler than this. I cut a piece of 6 x 13cm designer paper and matted it onto some contrasting cardstock which I had edged with a Fiskar's border punch ( I chose papers suitable for male & female recipients) The grey-based cards have a greek key-style border. I added ribbon bows for the girly cards & knotted ribbon for the male cards. A simple die-cut Thank You matted & layered onto textured cardstock completes the cards. The panels are adhered with foam tape. I left the inside blank for an appropriate message.

Poppy's 21st

This is a card that I made for a commission. It was for a girl with learning difficulties who had just mastered the art of knitting. Her grandmother wanted knitting included in the card so I knitted a small square of garter stitch using DMC embroidery thread and a pair of cocktail sticks. When I had finished the knitting I wound excess thread into a ball and wrapped it with a small piece of paper. I added a pearl to the end of each cocktail stick which made them look like knitting needles! I used paper from the DCWV Spring stack and a panel of white dotted Bazzill cardstock which bears the recipient's name. A scalloped circle holds the age & knitted piece. A polka dot ribbon bow & layered flowers and some pink glittery drops from Papermania finish the card.

A visit from the stork!

Sorry I've been AWOL but I've been prepping for a new round of workshops at Jendenink and haven't had time to make many cards, but I did manage to squeeze this one in! This sweet cut from Lyrical Letters was crying out for me to use it! I cut this knock- kneed (HAHA!)stork from silver mirri & the baby bundle from pink/blue cardstock which I then adhered to the base stork. I cut a panel of white Bazzill dotty cardstock matted onto pink/blue card. I added a strip of patterned paper mounted onto card which was trimmed with a Fiskars border punch. A ribbon & layered flower were added as decoration & added to the card with foam pads as was the stork. Glitter on the baby bundle, the sentiment (also glittered) and some heart shaped tiny gems were added to finish. I also decorated the inside of the card (this is the boy version)
