Fan-tastic birthday......

I've been a bad blogger again! It's a week since I last posted. I've been busy with new cards for a new set of workshops and just don't seem to have had time to put fingers to keys as it were!

Black and hot pink has to be one of my fave colour palettes to work with. I especially love the paper that I used on this card from the DCWV Street Lace 8x8 stack. There is also a fab lime green in the pack too. This card is a stepper card, made by adding a folded piece of card to a standard 6" square card- the extension piece is about 3" high. I covered the back of the card with black cardstock and added a piece of the hot pink paper cut slightly smaller to create a border all round. I punched one edge of a piece of black cardstock with an MS punch and adhered it to the front, shorter portion of the card with the punched edge protruding over the mountain fold. I added a piece of black patterned paper wrapped with hot pink satin ribbon. The fan was cut from pink mirri card and black lace-effect patterned paper. I added a piece of black lace, giving the fan a Spanish feel. I cut a flourish from black glitter card, adhered it across the fan, then adhered a large pink bloom and some smaller punched flowers with pearl centres. Another flourish corner was cut from black glittercard along with a 'Happy Birthday' sentiment, and both were adhered flat to the back portion of the card. A smattering of pearls completes the card.

A baby is a kiss from Heaven.......

I've got a couple of baby cards for you today. I thought that the sentiment was perfect for these cute babies sleeping on a crescent moon. The card is a 6" square tent fold with a punched bottom edge. The papers are from Dovecraft's New Arrival 6" pad. I added a border with a punched edge and trimmed with satin polka dot ribbon. A scalloped oval holds the cute baby cut from flesh-coloured cardstock and patterned paper. The moons were cut from sparkly gift wrap and adhered to a base image cut from plain cardstock. The clouds and plain oval (embossed with the Dovecraft 'Boofle' embossing folder after cutting) were cut from white textured cardstock. The 'moon babies' were adhered to the embossed ovals with foam pads. These in turn were adhered to the scalloped ovals and adhered with more foam pads to the front of the card. The ovals were embellished with a WOC bloom. The sentiment was computer generated onto white textured cardstock, matted with coloured card and then adhered to the card front with foam pads. A trio of punched stars completes the card.

I've found that this oval from Opposites Attract fits most scalloped ovals, especially the ones from StoryBook. The ovals on George are a little too elongated to fit perfectly, whereas these ovals are a little more 'squat' and fit perfectly.

Farewell Carolyne.........

One of my hubby's secretaries left the hospital on Friday to begin a new job and he asked me to make a card that her colleagues could all sign. He left the design to me (as always!) only specifying that it should be A4 in size. I chose an aqua palette from a 12x12 stack by Grace Taylor called 'Vintage' (fromThe Range) and kept the design simple. I cut out a scalloped 'eyelet lace' panel adding an embossed, matted panel in the centre holding the 'Good Luck Carolyne' legend. I added some wide sheer ribbon, an aqua rose, hat pin, and a smattering of pearls to finish.

Kate.........

It was my niece Kate's birthday on Monday and this the card that I made for her. This is a new kind of card for me. I saw something similar whilst blog-hopping last week and came up with a design for a tall (DL) card and another that will fit into a 6" square envelope. I'll show you one of them soon.. To make the base card I cut down a C5 card to 8.5" x 4.5" (basically a DL or Legal Size in the U.S) and covered the card front with black cardstock. I then cut a smaller piece of patterned paper (from the Paper Lace 8x8 stack from DCWV), punched the bottom edge and wrapped it with ribbon. It was then adhered to the front of the card with foam tape. I then cut a 5.5" square matted with a piece of pink paper. This was adhered flat to the card. A shaped panel was adhered centrally with foam tape, and on top of that a scalloped oval. A standard oval cut from patterned paper was adhered to the scalloped oval and holds the Happy Birthday greeting and the name. To complete the card I added a flourish, punched butterflies (from an Xcut border punch), flowers and a smattering of pearls.

Workshop Wednesday........

Happy Mother's Day!..........

 ...to all you lovely UK Mum's out there! Hope you've had a lovely day. We've just got back from a lovely pub lunch in the village. We've lived in our present house for 12 years and have never set foot inside the village pub, but it's recently had a refurbishment so we decided to give it a go. The food was lovely and hot, served by cheerful staff in a busy but not too noisy environment. If you are ever in Stubbington give the Red Lion a go. The prices are really reasonable too.
Enough waffling, down to business.
Today's cards are the ones that I sent to my Mum. I went vintage with the one from hubby and me. I used a picture that I downloaded from t'internet and printed onto vanilla Papermania textured cardstock and trimmed to fit a stamp-shaped panel. The papers are from a 12x12 Grace Taylor 'Vintage' stack from The Range. I mounted the stamp panel onto a shaped panel covered with fashion plate paper and trimmed with cream cotton lace (pleated onto a strip of DS tape) and pink satin ribbon from Paperchase. I coloured a pearl hatpin with a permanent marker and pushed it through the centre of the ribbon bow ** I always add a silver bugle bead to the end of my hatpins to prevent needle-stick injury, especially if the card is being posted** 'MUM' was cut from Papermania shimmer cardstock and adhered with foam pads. A WOC floral arrangement, heart shaped pearl embellishment (The Works) and a smattering of pink pearls completes the card.

This cute basket was cut from shimmer cardstock and filled with punched flowers and leaves. The papers are Dovecraft Basic papers and the card base is a 6" square Z-fold. The white panel was embossed with a swirl embossing folder, and the basket was adhered to it with foam pads. On the inside (which I forgot to photograph! Duh!) I added 'Happy Mother's Day' and 'Nan' (this card was from the boys). I added a yellow polka dot satin bow and a butterfly to complete the card.
